Manila, Philippines – KAPUSO news anchor Arnold Clavio has issued a statement about the brouhaha triggered by his deemed “racist” remarks against members of the National Football team known as Azkals.
In his statement released March 14, he said he didn’t intend to come off as prejudiced against them.
Recall that Wednesday morning, Clavio earned the ire of Azkals fans and netizens alike after he lashed out on the team, calling them “insensitive” over their seemingly unsatisfactory efforts in addressing Match Commissioner Cristy Ramos’ sexual harassment complaint against members Lexton Moy and Angel Guirado.
In the Monday episode of the morning show “Unang Hirit,” a seething Clavio sounded off.
Parang God’s gift to women,” said he.
Seemingly carried away by his utter disappointment over the team’s attitude, he said, “Eh, hindi naman kayo Filipino, nagpapanggap lang kayong kayumanggi, hindi dito lumaki. Mahirap ‘yon, insensitive.”
In his statement, the broadcast personality admitted that he might have been out of line with his comments.
“Ang isyu po rito ay sexual harassment at kung may nagamit man po akong mga salita na hindi angkop, nagpapakumbaba po ako at humihingi ng pang-unawa,” said he.
He, however, reiterated that the sexual harassment complaint ought to be given the full attention of the authorities.
(Bulletin Entertainment Online)
