2 jackpot winners forfeit prizes

Manila, Philippines – Two lotto jackpot winners in March 2011 forfeited their prizes after they failed to claim them in one year.

The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) said the two won the March 15 Lotto 6/42 draw with a P23,762,775.60 jackpot and winning combination 0521-42-11-08-27 and the March 25 Mega Lotto 6/45 draw with a P4.5-million jackpot and winning combination 19-23-44-36-40-28.

Based on its mandate, the PCSO has the legal right to forfeit and use for charity assistance any unclaimed jackpot and other prizes after a period of one year.

Republic Act (RA) No. 1169, or the Act Providing for Charity Sweepstakes, Horse Races, and Lotteries, outlines on Section 6 the forfeiture of unclaimed prizes.

“Prizes not claimed by the public within one year from date of draw shall be considered forfeited, and shall form part of the charity fund,“ the law said. (Edd K. Usman)
