Manila, Philippines – The impeachment trial of Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice Renato C. Corona took another twist yesterday as a prominent lawyer and Marcos’ loyalist asked the Office of the Ombudsman (OMB) to probe also the alleged hidden wealth of all prosecutors who are all members of the House of Representatives.
Lawyer Oliver Lozano, president of Lawyers’ League for a Better Philippines, said Corona was being tried in the Senate on suspicion of having of ill-gotten wealth, among others. “The prosecutors too and other solons who signed the impeachment complaint should also be probe on the same suspected offense,” he said.
For one, he accused the led prosecutor Iloilo Congressman Neil Tupas of constructing a mansion in Xavierville in Quezon City. He said the anti-graft body should also investigate the alleged falsified impeachment complaint on the ground that many of the signatories had not even read the complaint. (Jun Ramirez)
