Palparan sighted in Bataan twice

MORONG, Bataan – Three teams of policemen were deployed yesterday morning to comb the mountainous areas of this town and in Bagac and Abucay towns after police here received reports that the former general was sighted twice in the province.

Senior Supt. Arnold D. Gunnacao, Bataan police director, told newsmen that Palparan was sighted first in the towns of Morong and Bagac last January 10. Only last January 23, Gunnacao said Palparan was seen in Abucay town.

“I already sent three teams of policemen in the areas where Gen. Palparan was sighted reportedly, but this has to be verified first since this is just reports from the field,” Gunnacao said.

Palparan used to be the commanding officer of the Army’s 24th Infantry Battalion in 80s and has since established close relationship with a number of people here.

While the militants dubbed Palparan as “berdugo” for allegedly being the brain behind the disappearance of a number of suspected rebels during his stint, he was also respected by his fellow soldiers and policemen. (Mar T. Supnad)
