Faith cures depression – Cavite priest

Manila, Philippines – Faith in life, family ties, love and concern can save one from depression which can be fatal at times.

Father Adrian L. Rañola, a Roman Catholic priest based in Imus Diocese, said this as he noted that the number of suicide cases in Cavite and elsewhere which have reached alarming proportions.

This developed after the police recorded another suicide case in Cavite with the demise of a depressed male patient who reportedly jumped out of a 40-feet-high hospital building last Wednesday night in General Trias town.

The 55-year-old victim, who underwent dialysis, leaped unnoticed from the window of the intensive care unit (ICU) room, it was reported.

There were more or less 25 suicide incidents in the province that was reported to the police this year alone.

Interviewed by reporters Thursday, Fr. Rañola said that the series of suicide incidents in the country is in an alarming state which should be resolved by all concerned.

One can get rid of depression by strengthening one’s faith in God, having good family ties and moral values and sharing their love and care for others, he said.

“The incidents are indeed in an alarming state. Depression which sometimes leads to suicides can be prevented if one have a strong faith, family ties and values and the love for the people around us,” the 47-year-old priest said.

Rañola is a member of Team Ministry of Our Lady of Pillar Parish-Imus Cathedral. A priest for 23 years, he was assigned to other areas in the country.
