Toll hike hearings postponed anew

Manila, Philippines – Motorists can heave a sigh of relief as no toll hike is set for implementation at the Subic-Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx), Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway (MCTE) and the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR)—at least until the New Year’s day.

This as the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) confirmed that the public hearing for the toll hike petitions filed by operators of SCTEx, MCTE and STAR will be scheduled by January as the agency has ran out of time to deliberate the issue this month.

It was recalled that the public hearing for the three toll hike petitions was initially scheduled last November 10 but was deferred to December 1. It was once again postponed last December 6 after the oppositors on the petition questioned the rules that the TRB adopted in conducting the public hearing.

“There will be no public hearing set before January 1 anymore. It will probably be scheduled on the first week of January,” said TRB executive director Manuel Imperial.

Imperial confirmed that motorists returning to Metro Manila from spending the Christmas and New Year’s break in their provinces can benefit from the delay as the TRB will need at least 15 days to resolve the issue. (Kris Bayos)
