National Convention of Government Employees atHistoric Landmark Manila Hotel

MANILA, Philippines — Over a million workers from the public sector led by Philippine Government Employees Association (PGEA) and the National Convention of Government Employees Working Council (NCGEWC) will celebrate this year’s National Government Employees’ Week focusing on the theme “Kawani ng Gobyerno: Kaakibat sa Pagbabago.”

This year’s celebration coincides with the 66th Anniversary of PGEA and the 15th Anniversary of the NCGEWC. This year’s National Convention of Government Employees will be held at the historic landmark Manila Hotel on December 7, 2011, and at the Mabini Social Hall of Malacañang on December 8, 2011. There will be a Leaders Assembly and Planning Workshop on December 9-11, 2011, in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. A Thanksgiving Mass will usher in the activities for the week, which also includes a fun run and a motorcade.

In 1941, a group of government employees conceptualized the PGEA , which formally organized in December 2, 1945 with the goal of protecting the rights and safeguarding the welfare of government employees. Among the objectives of the organizations were to unite workers to protect and defend their rights and interests; protect the welfare of the public through honest, efficient, and responsible public service; and provide welfare and development-based programs and services to government employees.

Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 1130 issued on November 11, 1997, the first week of December every year has been observed as National Government Employees’ Week to highlight “the invaluable services rendered by deserving government employees and underscore their invaluable contribution to nation building” as well as “recognize the best effort of government employees and encourage them to achieve efficiency in the public service.”

We greet the Philippine Government Employees Association and the National Convention of Government Employees Working Council led by its President Esperanza S. Ocampo, other Officers and Members on the occasion of National Government Employees Week. We wish them all the best and success in all their endeavors. CONGRATULATIONS!
