Gays meet with Palace execs

Manila, Philippines – Buoyed by their meeting with Palace executives on December 9, members of the gay community expressed hope that hate-crimes would taper off and eventually stop.

The murder of a gay garbage picker on Monday shattered that hope. Gilbert Sero’s bloodied and partially naked body was found near his shack adjacent to the main office of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) in Quezon City on Monday, his head bashed with a rock.

“The CHR should speed up its promise of developing policies and programs to investigate and act on hate crimes against lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders (LGBTs), the statistics of murders are already getting scary,“ ProGay spokesperson Goya Candelario said. (Marvyn N. Benaning)
