‘Survivor’ back: Challenge and cash

Manila, Philippines – ISLAND PARADISE’ – Why a Philippine setting? That’s the most asked question about “Survivor,” which airs starting tonight on GMA. Why San Vicente, Palawan?

Host Richard Gutierrez has a ready answer. The island is beautiful, the beach pristine and the vegetation lush. Really breathtaking. And the video shown during the press launch of “Survivor” attested to Chard’s words of praise.

It turned out that many European editions of “Survivor” shot in San Vicente and nearby islands, billed as “island paradise somewhere in the Pacific.”

Chard says he’s been to many places in Palawan, but San Vicente is so far the most beautiful.

CHALLENGE AND CASH – The celebrity pairs in “Survivor” have an almost uniform answer as to why they joined the reality show, the most successful in the country. A challenge to their endurance — physical, mental, emotional.

And, of course, the cash prize: P3-million cash.

Maribel Lopez says she felt she was not up to the challenge, but daughter Mara Yokohama persuaded her to do it, “Kaya ko raw.”

Former child star Chuckie Dreyfus wanted to make a showbiz comeback, “And what could be better than via ‘Survivor’” – in tandem with good friend Isabel Granada.

EXPLOSIVE – Here are the details of the show as provided by GMA.

This season, doubles are in. Making its explosive debut on primetime TV this Monday, Nov. 14, “Survivor Philippines Celebrity Doubles Showdown” is all set to unfold double the danger, twice the drama, and the excitement times two!

With ten pairs of celebrity castaways leaving their comfort zones and braving the unknown – trying to survive against life-threatening storms, dangerous creatures, and scheming tribe-mates out to win the game – the stakes are definitely higher than ever.

And returning “Survivor Philippines” host Richard Gutierrez knows this by heart.

“Richard understands the different aspects of the show very well and he is fully aware of all the dangers that this new season could offer. As such, he is more prepared and focused as he returns to host ‘Survivor Philippines Celebrity Doubles Showdown’,” says GMA AVP for Public Affairs Leo Sanchez-Matias.

“Aside from being a host, Richard is also a part of the production team and he shares his ideas even during the pre-production stage.
