Manila, Philippines –Zamboanga City will host the first leg of Batang Pinoy slated October 27-30.
More than 2,000 athletes are competing in the revival of the mass-based sports competition under the aegis of Philippine Sports Commission and supported by Local Government Units (LGUs), Department of Interior and Local Government and Department of Education.
Events on tap are archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, basketball (3-on-3), chess, gymnastics, judo, swimming, table tennis, lawn tennis, taekwondo, weightlifting and wrestling.
After Zamboanga, competition shifts to Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental on November 10-13 covering the Visayas.
There will be three separate venues in Luzon – Baguio (Nov. 24-27), NCR (Nov. 29-Dec. 2), with University of Makati as the main venue and Southern Luzon (Dec. 4-7) slated in Sta. Cruz, Laguna.
The event culminates with the national championship in Bicol in Naga City on December 10-13.
The top performers chosen will be trained and sent to the upcoming Youth Olympics in 2014 in Nanjing, China. (Clyde Mariano)
