8 wounded in S. Philippine City blast

ZAMBOANGA CITY, the Philippines – Eight people were wounded in two powerful explosions that rocked Zamboanga City yesterday afternoon, the military said.

Col. Buenaventura Pascual, Task Force Zamboanga commander, said authorities believed improvised bombs were used in the separate explosions that ripped through a pension house and a cockpit arena at 12:30 p.m.

Pascual said the first explosion occurred at the Red Palm pension house beside a bus terminal, wounding three people.

The second explosion happened in a cockpit arena in Barangay San Roque in Zamboanga City that wounded five people.

Elements of Task Force Zamboanga together with the Explosive Ordnance Division (EOD) and Army K9 were immediately dispatched to clear the area and conduct post-blast investigation. (Elena L. Aben)
