Manila, Philippines – In a span of less than 12 hours, three men killed themselves on Tuesday in separate areas in Quezon City (QC).
One of them was a teenager who shot himself after the parents of his 16-year-old girlfriend threatened to take legal action against him for getting her pregnant.
QC Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (QCPD-CIDU) probers said John Eric Gregorio, 22, Manuel Navarro Sr., 65, and Arbel Avila, 48, committed self-murders.
SPO1 Randy Escobido said that Gregorio shot himself around 11 p.m. in the head with a .22-caliber pistol while locked away inside his room at 146 Jose Abad Santos St., Brgy. Sta. Lucia. He died while being treated at a hospital.
Gregorio’s suicide was prompted by a talk he had earlier that morning with the parents of his 16-year old girlfriend Denise Belmonte. The Belmontes threatened to sue him for getting their under-aged daughter pregnant.
The second suicide occurred around 11:30 a.m. when maid Catherine Tabasa found her master Navarro dangling from a white cable cord inside his room at 6 Saint John St., Remerville Subdivision, Brgy. Baesa. Police said that Navarro, who had been suffering from an illness, could have ended his pain by killing himself.
The third suicide was that of Avila, a warehouse supervisor. Security guard Ortrannie Bonitia found his body at around 7 p.m. hanging from an electric cord lashed into the extended hoist of an overhead crane parked inside the Goodway Marketing warehouse 128 Quirino Highway, Brgy. Baesa. Police are still determining the circumstances behind Avila’s death.
