NCAE postponed

MANILA, Philippines – Due to operational and administrative limitations caused by Typhoon Pedring, the Department of Education (DepEd) announced yesterday the postponement of the National Career Assessment Examination (NCAE) today, September 28, in Metro Manila and other affected areas.

The announcement was made by DepEd Undersecretary Alberto Muyot following the suspension of classes in all levels—including pre-school, elementary and high school in both private and public— since Monday.

In an official statement, Muyot said that NCAE in the National Capital Region (NCR) as well as in Regions 1, 2, 3, 4A, 4B, 5, and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) have been postponed to September 30, 2011 to “allow for the preparation of test centers and delivery of test materials on September 29.”

“Depending on local situation in those areas, Regional and Division Offices may decide to further move the examination date,” Muyot added.

Muyot, however, clarified that “all other areas shall continue to hold the NCAE on September 28, 2011 as stated in DepEd Memorandum No. 153, s. 2011 and in the enclosure of DepEd Order No. 28, s. 2011.”

Earlier, this year’s examination date was moved from August 31 to September 28 to give students sufficient time for comprehensive career guidance before they enter the tertiary level.

DepEd said that NCAE will be given to third and fourth year high school students both in public and private secondary schools.

Also covered to take the NCAE are fourth year high school students who are applying for scholarship programs offered by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

The NCAE is an assessment of students’ aptitudes and skills and estimates what field or discipline the student can excel in. It is nondiscriminatory for people who have aptitude for technical-vocational and entrepreneurial courses. (Ina Hernando-Malipot)
